The drawing in the work of eugene de bie (1914-1983
Eugène De Bie was not only an excellent painter but also a talented draftsman.
Having an ascendant often inferior to that of painting, the drawing remains nonetheless the ferment of all plastic creation, as much by its inexorable spontaneity as by the plurality of its techniques.
It is this aspect of the work of Eugène De Bie that we propose to discover this exhibition where the sensuality of the woman suggested by some curves traced in Indian ink, rubs against the foggy worlds of the watercolor or those, warmer, pastel.
Faces defeated by the shadows and the weather, almost human creatures stretching an outsize hand, mysterious compositions in which the sketch contrasts with the detail, and finally these perennial memories of Brittany are so many themes gathered there to remind us the quest and perhaps the dreams of an art-oriented existence.
