Summer perfumes by Tibor Dengyel
Portraits, landscapes, views of cities, popular types and figures of folklore, nudes, bouquets, fantastic evocations and truculent scenes of carnival or carnival make up the universe of Tibor Dengyel. A universe that comes in a wider range and transfigure a light of which he was an undisputed master. Whether it is the shimmering water under a beautiful Italian sun, the slightly gilded transparency of northern snow or the purity of a blue azure speckled with clouds, the artist has seized all the nuances of each moment of the day and the particular atmosphere of each landscape. Water plays an essential role and allows it to exploit the almost infinite variations of reflections, the mobility of the waves from opacity to transparency. This liquid element, which sometimes envelops the subject with a faint mist, a sparkle that dilutes the subject, gives Dengyel's compositions an almost unreal atmosphere, melting the colors into moving masses from which he emanates a certain mystery. By their particular point of view, by the abundance of details and this particular treatment of color, some landscapes recall the masters of the seventeenth century. While others are in a more luminous vein or clearly state their borrowing from Impressionism. The key thing for Tibor Dengyel is not to draw a faithful portrait of the place, but to highlight the elements that make it beautiful and unique. The proof is that many landscapes are born in the intimacy of the workshop, and sometimes many years after the visit of the artist.
